Sam Brown joined RPC in 2025 as a Technical Consultant working within our Support team and has quickly become a much-loved addition to the team.
Working across our support desk and internal IT, Sam is always ready to get stuck in and lend a hand wherever he can. Sociable, outgoing and always up for a laugh, he’s become a familiar face around RPC Towers, whether he’s tackling a technical challenge, heading out on a lunchtime walk with the team or making the most of any opportunity to escape the office! With his positive attitude and willingness to get involved, Sam has quickly settled into life at RPC and is a lovely addition to the team.
Where are you based?
I’m originally from Bradford, otherwise known as the centre of the universe, and I’ve recently moved over to Leeds.
Tell us a bit about yourself
I come from a long line of born and bred Bradfordians, which probably explains my belief that it’s the centre of the universe! I spent four years in Leeds studying BA (Hons) Jazz Studies at Leeds Conservatoire and loved my uni days so much that I’ve recently made the move back to the city. I also ventured a little further afield, spending six months living in Canada. Music is still a huge part of my life and I’m a keen drummer, regularly travelling to play local gigs with my band, Camera 02. I’ve also known fellow Support Technician Steven Rushworth since our school days, and these days we can often be found heading out for our daily walk around the office grounds in Guiseley.
How has your career path brought you to RPC?
Before joining RPC, I had a bit of a varied career! I spent some time teaching music abroad, worked as a Technical Consultant for Sky, supervised a few bars and have also worked as a private session musician. I’ve always been interested in tech and coding though, and Steven and I spent plenty of time tinkering with PCs growing up as keen PC gamers. So, when he mentioned there was an opportunity to join RPC as a Technical Consultant working with him in the support team, I jumped at the chance. It felt like a great opportunity to turn something I’d always enjoyed into a career, and I’ve absolutely loved it ever since.
What attracted you to RPC?
What really attracted me to RPC was the opportunity to challenge myself and keep learning. It’s a company that isn’t afraid to take on new challenges, and since joining in mid-2025, that’s definitely been true! I like coming into work knowing there’s always something new to learn or get involved with. Steven had always spoken really highly of RPC too, particularly the culture and the people, and being part of such a close-knit team where everyone can collaborate, ask for help and have a laugh has been brilliant. I actually didn’t realise RPC was employee-owned until after I joined, but that’s been an added bonus. Knowing we all have a stake in the company’s success gives me even more motivation to contribute and be part of where RPC is going.
What are you working on right now?
Right now, I spend most of my time working on the support desk, helping our customers day to day, alongside supporting RPC with our internal IT. I’m also getting more hands-on exposure to how our support offering is developing and some of the wider plans for the future. It’s exciting to be involved in that and to keep learning as the role grows.
What do you like best about your job?
Definitely the culture. Everyone works hard and pulls together to achieve what we need to, but we have more than a few laughs along the way! It’s a really supportive, great team where everyone is happy to help each other, which makes it an amazing environment to work in.
What do you do in your spare time?
Music has always been my biggest passion, so I spend a lot of my spare time performing with different groups. I’m the drummer for a band called Camera 02, and we regularly travel around playing local gigs. When I’m not behind a drum kit, I like keeping active by going to the gym or running, although that’s currently taken a bit of a back seat after I busted my knee playing football! I’m also attempting to learn French, emphasis on attempting, with hopes of putting it to good use on a future trip back to Canada. I love travelling in general, so I’ll take pretty much any opportunity I can to explore somewhere new.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I don’t think I ever had a particular dream job growing up, but if I had to choose one, it was probably Darth Vader! That career path didn’t quite work out, but music has always been an interest of mine, so I’d say I did a pretty good job of following that dream instead.
What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
No amount of money ever bought a second of time.
What's on your desk?
A mug filled to the brim with coffee and 1 of my five a day.
How do you like your tea?
Builders, Yorkshire. The way it should be.
Cat or dog?
I've always owned dogs, but cats have recently grown on me. I suppose whichever smells the least...
If your house was on fire, what 3 things would you save?
It would be pretty difficult to handle an entire drum set, so realistically, I'll go for my computer, guitar and my beloved air fryer.
What would you superpower be?
The ability to learn anything in an instant.
